Lesson 5 The Master Chef’s Management - Part 1
A. Overall Lesson Objective
•To understand His oversight and quality control for His actions during the week of creation.
B. Learning Competencies
•Oversight is the ability to see over a situation or to observe from a place of advantage or overall authority.
•Quality control is a functional term indicating that a producer or overseer of production has authority and criteria to judge a product.
•God exercised perfect oversight and quality control during the week of creation. He demonstrates this in Genesis and renders assessments on what is created.
•After creating man and woman in “our image” (God’s image), He renders an additional action to this crown of creation: “He blessed them”.
C. Lesson
Overview
The next two lessons deal with quality control and oversight that God provides to His creation. This lesson begins with His positive observations and actions in the first part of Genesis, which is the record of His creation in strict historical format.
The God of the Bible is unique when compared to other gods or a naturalistic world view. The Master Chef states clearly that He begins with nothing but His command, which is the only ingredient at the beginning of creation. As He begins to create, however, another facet of His nature is revealed: His attentiveness. He pays strict attention to what is created and what happens in His creation, which is made apparent by the words He provides, where He states His observation of what has been done and explains or comments from a position of oversight and quality control. Unlike oversight and quality control by us, His functions in this regard are perfect and complete for His purpose to communicate with us. He does not waste words, so His words are succinct and to the point. When He renders an ‘opinion,’ it is precise and correct. He provides a report to us of this type of action or description, because we would be incapable of seeing the situation as He does. He wants us to know the results of His quality control and oversight, because it affects us. This facet of God begins at creation in significant ways and continues through the Bible. Therefore, it is important to see how it occurs and how to recognize it early in the course.
Oversight and Quality Control
Oversight is really two words with meanings that are connected. Over and sight (the two words) indicate an ability to see over a situation—to see it from an advantageous position, where there is no interference that confuses a proper assessment. If an overseer is perfect, it means he completely understands the situation before him. It is because he is looking over a situation from a better vantage point. God, who is above all, sees perfectly from His position of authority, yet provides a fully accurate report so we can understand some of what He sees. As you will see, God is involved in oversight of His creation, and this oversight continues.
Quality control, another modern term but ancient function, is a process by which inspection and testing of a process or thing are accomplished to make sure the result meets a standard. In manufacturing, if quality is not maintained, either correction occurs or the item is rejected as substandard. In human terms, quality control is present also, to ensure that people have the skills or capabilities that are needed for a task. Oversight and quality-control functions are well understood by parents, leaders, business people, pastors, and teachers. An incredible facet of God, which He clearly reveals in biblical creation, is that He cares about quality. He has standards for acceptance and rejection. Because He is perfect, His involvement in creation affairs, including the affairs of man, is, therefore, perfect. When He says something is not right or unacceptable, His assessment is perfect and without error. Like His oversight, He is directly involved in judgments of quality from the beginning, and we are affected by those determinations.
🦕 CT? Provide the teacher with the definitions and their sources for both ‘quality control’ and ‘oversight’ from the assignment for this class and compare to the description above.
For both oversight and quality-control functions, examine some verses of Genesis (listed below) in a fresh way to see verbs and adjectives that describe what God does and how He assesses aspects of creation. As lessons continue, you will see how His functions in this regard play an important role in a biblical creation world view.
🦕 CT? Note the words “good” or “very good” in the following Genesis 1 scripture verses: 10, 12, 18, 25, and 31. Can any problem exist in His creation at this point?
🦕 CT? Note the word “blessed” in 1:28. What do you think is the reason for the announcement?
D. Assignment
Read Psalm 74:12-17, Isaiah 45:5-8, and Acts 17:24-28. Using the descriptions of ‘oversight’ and ‘quality control’, look for either function in these portions of the Bible and describe how they appear in each selection.
E. Learning Activity
Provide detail for an event in some other class or situation as designated by the teacher where someone in a position of oversight gave a ‘good’ report. Describe the person’s position of oversight. Describe how they judged what had been done that resulted in a ‘quality control’ assessment of acceptance. What was the criterion for the positive assessment?
F. Concluding Assessment
The Master Chef, the Creator, provided oversight and quality control for each day of creation. His assessment of “good” for each day and “very good” on the sixth day is an overall assessment. There is no indication of error, problem, death, disease, conflict, or any other negative thing.
