Overview for Unit 4 Part 1

Part 1 of Unit 4 compares the naturalistic and biblical world views as they affect the typical classroom subjects of history, social studies, and the sciences in primary and secondary education. Textbooks from several countries were reviewed in the process. Because children view textbooks and the classroom setting as an authority and truthful, they are shaped by what is taught or presented in text or by person. However, if the world view that is assumed is incorrect, then what is presented can often be incorrect regarding origins. While it may seem that facts are not disputable, some facts are interpreted and affected by the world view that is chosen. A differing world view, then, can yield different answers. However, the child is usually presented with only one world view, which is naturalism. This part of the study will summarize each world view, provide a specific lesson on the question of age of the earth, and address how the choice of world view affects major school subjects. The answers are quite different if origins are involved in the material.
